New Japanese Ceramics By Miya

Twice a year, we have been bringing in the new collection of handmade porcelain, stoneware, and ironware from the Japanese design house Miya. We love the Spring Blossom series of sushi, sake, and serving pieces.

Some more of of our favorites from the new arrivals by Miya...

These tea cups are reverse-glazed with the characters "hei" for traquility and "wa" for harmony. When combined, in the Japanese colloquial, this is a message of peace.

The modern Y Sake Set

The Sumo Champions Tea Cup. It's intriguing to us because it's not only a sublime and quirky piece of Japanese everyday useable art, but it's also a chronicle of history. The current Sumo Champ is added to this cup every time the distinction changes hands. The last character on the new cup has held the title for 16 years.

These children's rice bowls with animal caricatures, based on watercolors from the Magohira period in Japan are so sublime and artful and whimsical. We love these.
